Important information about Panadol

This product contains paracetamol; do not take it with other medicines that also contain paracetamol. Paracetamol is contained in many medicines to treat pain, fever, symptoms of cold and flu, and sleep medicines.
If you have liver or kidney disease, talk to your doctor before taking paracetamol.
Do not take more than the recommended dose, as this may be harmful, including serious harm to your liver.

Headache & Migraine

Headaches can be dull and throbbing, sharp and pinpointed, and can last for a few minutes or a few days. There are three main types of headaches: tension, migraine and cluster headaches. Each may have its own causes and different symptoms. Migraine headaches differ from tension headaches in that the pain is usually restricted to one side of the head, and may be described as throbbing, moderate to severe pain.

Treat the headache as soon as possible with appropriate medication. The earlier the treatment is given, the better.

Which Type Of Headache Is Causing You Pain?

Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are one of the most common types of headache. They can be caused by a tightening of the muscles of the neck and scalp. This muscle constriction may be triggered by physical or environmental factors, including stiffness in the shoulder and neck muscles as a result of stress or poor posture.

Tension headaches can:

result in mild-to-moderate pain and feel like a tight band of pressure around the head
be felt equally on both sides of the head, and are normally short lived
be uncomfortable and annoying. However, they are generally not severe enough to prevent daily activities such as walking

Migraine Headaches

Migraine headaches differ from tension headaches in that the pain is usually restricted to one side of the head and may be described as throbbing, moderate or severe. Many migraine sufferers may become temporarily sensitive to light and noise, and may also experience nausea and vomiting.

Migraine headaches can:

last from a few hours to a few days and attacks can be reoccurring
be more common in women than men
be caused by various triggers and vary from person to person

Fortunately, identifying and managing these triggers can substantially reduce the number of migraines.

Cluster Headaches

Cluster headaches are the least common type of headaches, but arguably the most intense, and men are more likely to suffer from them than women. The “cluster” in cluster headaches refers not to the location of the head pain, but rather to the grouping of the attacks over time. This is the main difference between cluster headaches and tension or migraine headaches—cluster headaches regularly recur over a certain period of time.

Cluster headaches can:

bring intense pain, which is usually described as excruciating and localised to one eye
affect one side of the head, around and behind the eye, then worsen and may last from 15 minutes to three hours
include symptoms such as eye swelling, tearing and redness and blocked or runny nose only on the side of the head that is affected

Suggested Products

Panodil, Panodil Zapp, Panodil Brus, Panodil Hot, Panodil Junior (paracetamol). Anvendelse: Mod svage smerter f.eks. hovedpine, menstruationssmerter, tandpine, muskel- og ledsmerter, samt for at nedsætte feber f.eks. ved forkølelse og influenza. Dosering: Panodil, Panodil Brus, Panodil Zapp: Voksne (inkl. ældre) og børn på 12 år og derover (min. 40 kg): 1 g 3-4 gange i døgnet, dog højst 4 g pr. døgn. Panodil og Panodil Brus: Børn 2-11 år: 50 mg/kg/døgn fordelt på 3-4 doser. Panodil Hot: Voksne (inkl. ældre) og børn på 15 år og derover: 2 breve (1 g) 3-4 gange i døgnet, dog højst 8 breve (4 g) pr. døgn. Panodil Junior oral suspension og suppositorier: Børn på 2 år og derover: 50 mg/kg/døgn fordelt på 3-4 doser. Forsigtighedsregler: Samtidig indtagelse af andre produkter indeholdende paracetamol skal undgås pga. risikoen for svær leverskade ved overdosering, der kan kræve levertransplantation eller føre til død. Særlig forsigtighed skal udvises hos personer med nedsat lever- eller nyrefunktion, hos personer med underskud af glutathion, ved hyppige hovedpineanfald, overfølsomhed overfor paracetamol eller hjælpestofferne. Tal med din læge hvis du tager medicin mod epilepsi, urinsyregigt, højt kolesterol eller blodfortyndende medicin. Panodil Zapp, Panodil Hot, Panodil Brus betragtes som produkter med højt natriumindhold, hvilket der skal tages hensyn til ved natrium- eller saltfattig diæt. Forsigtighed tilrådes ved nedsat hjertefunktion. Panodil Brus desuden: Ved intolerance overfor visse sukkerarter (indeholder sorbitol E420). Panodil Hot desuden: Forsigtighed ved Føllings sygdom/PKU (indeholder aspartam E951). Indeholder farvestoffer, som kan medføre allergiske reaktioner samt ved intolerance overfor visse sukkerarter (indeholder saccharose). Panodil Junior oral suspension desuden: Ved intolerance overfor visse sukkerarter (indeholder sorbitol E420 og maltitol E965). Indeholder methyl- og propylparahydroxybenzoat (E218 og E216), som kan give allergiske reaktioner (kan optræde efter behandlingen). Graviditet og amning: Kan om nødvendigt anvendes under graviditet. Bør anvendes i lavest mulige dosis, der mindsker smerterne, og i så kort tid som muligt. Kan anvendes under amning. Almindelige bivirkninger: Rødmen af rektalslimhinden (suppositorier). Panodil Extra (paracetamol + caffein). Anvendelse: Korttidsbehandling af feber f.eks. i forbindelse med forkølelse og influenza samt milde til moderate smerter f.eks. hovedpine, tandpine, menstruationssmerter samt muskel- og ledsmerter. Dosering: Voksne (inkl. ældre) og børn på 15 år og derover: 1-2 tabl. hver 4.-6. time. Børn under 15 år: Må ikke anvendes uden lægens anvisning. Forsigtighedsregler: Særlig forsigtighed skal udvises hos personer med kronisk alkoholmisbrug, alvorligt nedsat lever- og nyrefunktion, dehydrerede patienter, patienter med kroniske ernæringsforstyrrelser og hos astmapatienter, som er følsomme for acetylsalicylsyre. Alkoholiske drikke bør undgås. Samtidig indtagelse af andre produkter indeholdende paracetamol skal undgås pga. risikoen for svær leverskade ved overdosering, der kan kræve levertransplantation eller føre til død. Almindelige bivirkninger: Søvnløshed, rastløshed, svimmelhed, takykardi, kvalme pga irritation af maven. Øvrige bivirkninger; se indlægsseddel. Graviditet og amning: Graviditet: Bør ikke anvendes.
